Imagination to Reality

Wendy Parr, the Holistic Artist Coach

One artist I work with - I found an unusual tool for them. In fact, I’ve never used it as a solo tool before - I have a game I play that uses a blending of artists to help the artist break out of their idea of themselves, create expression they didn’t even know they could do. It’s super fun!

But for this artist, I had them think of ONE particular artist whenever they sang because it helped them OPEN their voice. They sang with more chest, richness and ease.

It actually brought a change to their mechanics, reducing tension so their OWN VOICE came out. They didn't sound like the inspiration, that was the tool - it made the desired CHANGE in their muscles and nervous system.

The way they’ve sung, and thought of their own voice created tension, when they thought about singing more like the other artist, they allowed air flow, more laid back, more chest voice … beliefs and muscle memory are powerful! This gave them a new sense of their own voice. A new experience when singing. A new feel.

Eventually, they didn't need to use the idea of that other artist at all, they sang more openly without that tool, the changes held, became automatic.
